Since I started my career as a model for 12 years I’ve always loved fashion shoots! Then when I started photographing weddings it was fun for me to mix the two worlds. I get so much joy working with women to help them feel as if they are gracing the cover of a magazine. There’s no reason you can’t have that on your wedding day. So I teamed up with Cincinnati Bridal & formal and my friend Ashley to put a few funky and fun looks together. You don’t often see bright red lips, birdcage veils, or feathers, so we started there. See what you think. Fun fact – I found my wedding dress at B&F-I mixed a few pieces together to create my own look too.
Selecting wedding vendors is challenging, fun, and sometimes overwhelming. How do you know who to choose, where your getting a great value, or which things to just pull out the big bucks. I like to share my experience and ideas about not only photography but some of the other things that I love-like dresses, makeup and flowers! I did a little photoshoot as an example.
Ashley did her own hair and makeup. I asked her to come with a high bun (fun edgy look) and a red lip. Then we added large statement earrings and a birdcage veil. We literally walked a block down the street to search for a photo location-we didn’t scout this spot its just a normal street in an everyday neighborhood in Reading.
We chose two very similar dresses-one is in the $7,000 range and the other is around $2,000. They both photographed beautifully. Which do you think was the pricey version?
I hope this can help to show that you can take a great photo anywhere! It’s all about finding good light, being comfortable with your photographer, and thinking creatively!
I’ve talked to a few brides recently that told me photography wasn’t their top priority. This is always shocking to me because after the wedding is over your photos are one of the only things left to remember your special day. Makeup washes off, your dress gets packed away, and flowers die. Photos are the only way to share private moments unseen by the majority of guests at the wedding like the moment before the bride walks down the aisle, both bride and groom getting ready, and many other special moments.
