Here are a few shots from my recent Hotel Covington Engagement shoot with Laura Kirkpatrick of ANTM. I’m just posting a few sneaks because they will be featured in an editorial later in the year, but I couldn’t keep them living on my hard drive any longer. Let me tell you, Laura is the sweetest, down to earth Kentucky girl you will meet. I loved meeting her fiancé and her daughter. We spent time cozied up at one of my absolute favorite places in KY – Hotel Covington. Their suites are to die for and their staff is so nice and accommodating. I wish they would have been around when we got married!
This session sums up why I like engagement photos. It’s not really for the photos, even though they are a time capsule and so fun to look back on after you’re actually married. I like shooting engagement photos because its a no pressure way for me to meet with future couples to hang out and get to know each other. Wouldn’t it be great to feel completely comfortable with your wedding photographer before the wedding? Wouldn’t it be nice to have photos edited and delivered, and feel confident that you absolutely love them and the style. Yes! All of the things. If you’re currently planning for your engagement shoot I like this article by JuneBug Weddings featuring 8 tips for nailing your engagement photos. It will help you decide on what to wear and how to brainstorm ideas for your location.
I always recommend thinking of unique outside-the-box locations and outfits. You don’t have to dress up and stand in a field just because you’re shooting engagement photos. Maybe go to a bar, cozy up in your kitchen, or play with the dogs in the backyard. Its about you, so why not actually look like yourself- and do real things. I’m all about simple, clean minimal color palettes and I just love the contrast of these neutral colors and Laura’s bright red hair! When planning your photos we will work together to come up with a plan you love and capture you. I’m inspired by magazines and fashion editorials, so if you decide to get a little edgy I’m so down~lets get creative. Looking for more engagement inspiration?
