Travel with me on this Michigan Destination Wedding! I’ve known Whitney + Dan since college – before they started dating. We were all art majors and spent tons of time in the studio working on projects and being silly together until 3am. It’s so fun to photograph a wedding when you’ve had the chance to be apart of the journey.
It was no surprise that they chose The Detroit Institute of Art (DIA) for their day. It’s so inspiring to stand in front of huge works of art all dressed up. As we walked around Whitney also filled us in on her favorite pieces and tidbits about the artists who created them. Detroit is a cool city, filled with color and art. I’ve never seen so many murals, or even just artistic graffiti. There’s a lot of movement and energy all around. The bridal party even included old friends from school too.
Then for their ceremony and reception we headed to the Detroit Yacht Club and went for a drive in Whitney’s Grandfathers vintage car. I’m often asked how to incorporate vintage vehicles into a wedding day and I’m all about taking them for a spin if possible. Whitney joked that the car might break down along the way, so we crossed out fingers. Outside the boats were lined along the docks as the sunset. Their style of decor was classic with candles, tall floral displays and drapery. There has always been an elegance and formal quality to Whitney, even in the way she speaks. It’s intentional and thoughtful.
